Anesteziya yaʻni og‘riqsizlantirish azaldan tibbiyotning muhim vazifalaridan biri bo‘lib kelgan. Ammo bu vazifalar amalga oshishi uchun oradan asrlar o‘tgan. Ilk og‘riqsizlantiruvchi vositalarga o‘simliklardan: nasha, ko‘knor, mandragora, mingdevonalardan tayyorlangan damlamalar va maʻlum sharoitlarda bemorni boʻshashtirib, ogʻriqni ham qoldirgan. Ammo ular jiddiy xirurgik amaliyotlarda yordam bermagan. Ustiga-ustak bunday og‘riq qoldiruvchi vositalarni uzoq vaqt mobaynida qo‘llash ularga qaram bo‘lib qolishga olib kelardi
