Aloqa liniyalari va uzatish muhiti zamonaviy axborot-kommunikatsiya texnologiyalarining asosini tashkil etadi. Axborot almashish jarayonida signallar turli xil fizik muhitlar orqali uzatiladi. Uzatish muhitining sifati va turi aloqa tizimining umumiy ishlash samaradorligini belgilaydi.Aloqa liniyalari orqali ma'lumotlar analog yoki raqamli shaklda uzatilishi mumkin. Har bir uzatish muhiti o'ziga xos fizik xususiyatlarga ega bo'lib, bu xususiyatlar signalning tarqalish tezligi, yo'qotishlar darajasi va shovqinga chidamliligini aniqlaydi.
